My new short comic is now starting! There will be a page every day this week to get started. http://www.genkigirl.com/wolvesandmen/
During my hiatus from Patches I’ve decided to work on a short story idea I’ve had lying around for years. This is just a short project that will only be 2-3 chapters depending on how I want to split up my script, and it is entitled “Of Wolves and Men”. I plan to start it this spring, in other words very soon! Though I will be leaving for France in a couple weeks, so I won’t set an exact start date for obvious reasons.
Anyway if you are interested in checking out a cover preview for my new comic short, then just hop on over to

And then be sure to check back later for new pages!
I’ve been getting a decent number of emails recently asking me about the status of Patches and whether I will continue with it and etc… Well, because I am not one for short answers, here is a very long winded explanation on how the year will pan out for me, my art, and ultimately Patches.
It is of course a fact of life that we need money in order to have a roof over our heads, clothes on our backs, and food in our bellies. In essence we need money to live. I am a human being just like everyone else and I’d like to live, so any paying comic job will ALWAYS come before Patches. This is why you will still see other online work from me, but maybe not Patches work. It is because of this paying work that I am able to pay my server fees and keep my domain name.
Fiscal responsibilities aside I have to come clean and confess that I have fallen out of love with Patches. When I look at the art for Patches I see bad art, and when I look at my writing for Patches, I only see a half-assed scheme of things that I really don’t understand what people see in it. Patches was originally only supposed to be a short 3 to 4 chapter comic, but because of my poor planning in the beginning, and through my attempts to rectify that poor planning, Patches started slowly becoming some sort of Epic that I can’t even see the ending for anymore. Well technically the ending is still writ, but it’s more like the end point is not visible from where we are at the moment.
So what does all this mean you may wonder, well, it means I need a break. I need to put some distance between me and Patches so I don’t eventually come to hate it. I’ve realized through doing my paying comic projects that my artwork is actually a lot stronger when I’m not working on Patches. For some reason just the act of working on Patches constrains me and makes me regress. I seem to have lost that free sort of feeling you get from creating. I’m not sure exactly what it is, but I do recognize it as being bad. Right now my plan is to give myself a break from Patches, to work on a few other creative projects, and to have some time to sit back and re-evaluate what’s happening with Patches and hopefully come to a conclusion on how to rectify my issues with it.
Finally I intend for 2011 to be a me year. It’s going to be my time to get my ducks in a row and work through the bad things that happened in 09′ and 10′ which are still stinging. I still plan to be creative in the New Year, and I’ve always wanted to learn Flash, so there are probably going to be some experiments done in that. Ultimately you are still going to see work from me, but it may or may not be exactly what you want. If you still feel like keeping track of what I am doing you can visit my comics blog at http://www.genkigirl.com/comics/
With that, I hope everyone has a prosperous New Year with good health and plenty of happiness, and I will endeavor to catch some of the same.
I thought I would post a note here about the new comics portal blog site I’ve been working to get set up. Within the next day or so, I will be taking down the old comics.html which is where Patches used to be housed. In it’s place, the main genkigirl domain’s comic link will point towards http://www.genkigirl.com/comics/. This is where I have the blog set-up and it will act as a sort of comics hub so you can get to all of my different comics from there, and it will also have my general comics blog where I will post most of my comic news, thus leaving the Patches blog to mostly Patches related things.
Everything is pretty much up and running now at the blog, so if you feel like it, go have a look and let me know what you think. http://www.genkigirl.com/comics/
I’m not sure who all might be interested, but I thought I would go ahead and share some news of my other projects here. The pic above is the rough cover sketch for the one shot story I am working on for Filthy Figments. The story will be 41 pages long and full of hot manliness, romance and some love-love action. It won’t be available for a while yet, as I still have to finish it, but so far it is completely scripted and thumbnailed. Now all I have to do is pencil, ink and tone. I’ll post updates regarding it on my Twitter, so if anyone is interested in keeping track of this project, you are more than welcome to.
